Celebration of Life

Thoughtful music, clear sound and calm support for a meaningful gathering.

A Celebration of Life is a different kind of event.

It isn’t really about entertainment.

It’s about creating enough space for people to remember someone, hear the stories being shared, reconnect with one another and celebrate a life in a way that feels authentic to the person who lived it.

Sometimes that means quiet background music and a few microphones.

Sometimes it means a carefully built soundtrack, a photo montage, stories from family and friends—and eventually some laughter.

Sometimes the person you’re remembering would have been deeply disappointed if nobody played their favorite song.

Versatile Sound Productions can help with the music, sound and flow of the gathering so your family has one less thing to manage.

The Music Should Mean Something

Music has a remarkable ability to bring people back to a moment.

A favorite artist.

A song from college.

The music somebody always played in the kitchen.

The song that drove everybody else in the family crazy because they played it approximately 4,000 times.

Those choices can tell a story in a way that generic background music can’t.

I’ll talk with you about the person you’re honoring, the music they loved and the feeling you want the gathering to have.

From there, VSP can provide live music management during the event or create a custom soundtrack or series of Spotify playlists that your family can use with one of our sound systems.

The goal isn’t to make it sound like a party.

It’s to make it sound like them.

Make Sure Everyone Can Hear the Stories

At many remembrance gatherings, the most meaningful moments aren’t planned performances.

They’re people talking.

A family member giving a eulogy.

A friend telling a story nobody else knew.

Someone deciding at the last minute that there’s something they need to say.

Those moments deserve to be heard.

VSP can provide professional sound systems and wireless microphones for:

Eulogies and readings • officiants and celebrants • open-mic remembrance periods • musical performances • announcements • indoor receptions • outdoor memorials and graveside gatherings

Outdoor audio deserves particular attention. Wind, open space, traffic, water and other ambient noise can make a voice disappear much faster than people expect.

Portable and battery-powered sound options may also be available for locations where traditional electrical power isn’t practical.

A Calm Hand on the Microphone When You Need One

There are gatherings where the family simply needs sound equipment.

There are others where it helps to have somebody gently guide the room.

I’m Nick Salvatoriello, owner of Versatile Sound Productions and a professional emcee and facilitator in addition to being a longtime DJ.

For a Celebration of Life, that role looks very different from hosting a wedding, conference or party.

It might mean welcoming guests, introducing a speaker, inviting people to share memories, transitioning into a video or musical tribute, making a practical announcement, or helping bring the gathering to a thoughtful close.

The objective isn’t to become the voice of the event.

It’s to provide enough structure that the people who matter can be heard.

Photos, Video & Multimedia Tributes

For some families, images become an important part of telling the story.

VSP can help support photo montages, memorial videos and other multimedia presentations with projector and screen options, audio playback and basic event AV support.

That might mean a tribute video everyone watches together.

Or it might simply mean a collection of photos rotating quietly in the background throughout the gathering.

Like the music, the technology should support the memory—not become the event.

What Can VSP Help With?

Every gathering is different, so services can be combined based on what your family actually needs.

VSP can assist with:

Thoughtfully selected background and remembrance music

Custom Spotify playlists built around the person’s life and musical tastes

Professional PA and speaker systems

Wireless microphones for eulogies, readings and shared memories

Portable or battery-powered sound for outdoor locations when appropriate

Audio support for live musicians

Photo montage and memorial-video playback

Projectors and projection screens

Subtle uplighting or atmospheric lighting when appropriate

Professional emcee/facilitation support

Delivery, setup, breakdown and sound-system assistance

You don’t need to turn this into a production.

Often, the simplest setup is the right one.

We’ll talk about the gathering first and build around what will actually help.

Indoor, Outdoor or Somewhere Meaningful

Celebrations of Life don’t always happen in traditional event venues.

I’ve supported events in all kinds of environments throughout my career, and VSP can help think through sound requirements for a function room, family home, backyard, park, memorial site or other location that has personal significance.

The important questions are practical:

How many people are coming?

Who needs to speak?

Will there be power?

Will guests be seated or moving around?

Is music happening in one space or several?

Will there be a video or photo presentation?

Once we understand those things, we can keep the technical solution as straightforward as possible.

You Have Enough to Think About

Families planning a remembrance gathering are often making a surprising number of decisions in a very short period of time.

The sound system shouldn’t become another research project.

Neither should the playlist.

Tell me a little about the person you’re honoring, what you’re planning and what you think you may need.

I’ll help you figure out the rest.

Celebration of Life & Remembrance FAQs

What does VSP provide for a Celebration of Life?

Services can include background and tribute music, custom playlists, PA systems, wireless microphones, audio for readings and eulogies, outdoor or portable sound, projection for photo/video tributes and light emcee or facilitation support. We build the package around the gathering rather than assuming every family needs the same setup.

Do we need a DJ for a Celebration of Life?

Often, no. Many remembrance gatherings don’t need someone actively mixing music throughout the event. A professional sound system paired with a thoughtfully prepared playlist may be exactly right. If your gathering involves more transitions, live music, shared memories or music that needs to change throughout the event, having someone onsite to manage those elements may be helpful. I’ll help you decide rather than automatically recommending the more expensive option.

Can you create a playlist using our loved one’s favorite music?

Yes. That’s one of the most meaningful ways I can help. We’ll talk about the person, artists and songs they loved, important eras of their life and the mood you want to create. I can then build one playlist or several Spotify playlists for arrival, remembrance, reception or other portions of the gathering.

Can family members suggest songs?

Absolutely. In fact, gathering songs from children, grandchildren, siblings and close friends can reveal a surprisingly complete musical portrait of someone. We’ll organize those ideas into something that flows naturally rather than simply placing every suggestion into one enormous shuffle playlist.

Can you provide microphones for eulogies and shared memories?

Yes. Wireless microphones are particularly helpful for eulogies, readings, officiants and open periods where guests may be invited to share stories. We’ll determine the right number and type of microphones based on the room, guest count and format.

Can you provide sound for an outdoor memorial or graveside gathering?

Often, yes. Outdoor events require some additional planning because wind, distance and ambient noise can make voices difficult to hear, and electrical power may not be readily available. Depending on the location and event requirements, VSP can provide portable or battery-powered audio solutions.

Can you help with a photo slideshow or memorial video?

Yes. VSP can support playback of photo montages and memorial videos, including projector and screen options when appropriate. We’ll discuss the venue, lighting conditions, presentation source and sound requirements ahead of time so the tribute can be shown without becoming another technical responsibility for the family.

Can Nick emcee or facilitate the Celebration of Life?

Yes, when it would be helpful. The approach is intentionally understated. I can welcome guests, introduce speakers, invite people to share memories, transition between music and video tributes and help close the gathering. The goal is to give the event enough structure while keeping the focus entirely on the person being remembered and the people who loved them.

Can we rent the equipment and run everything ourselves?

Yes. A supported sound-system rental may be a very good option for a simple remembrance gathering. VSP can help determine what equipment is appropriate, provide instructions and—if you choose—create the music playlists ahead of time.

How much does Celebration of Life sound or music support cost?

It depends primarily on what the gathering requires. A simple speaker-and-microphone setup is very different from an event involving several spaces, outdoor sound, multiple microphones, video projection and onsite management. Tell me about the location, number of guests and program and I’ll recommend an appropriately sized solution rather than adding equipment you don’t need.

Where does VSP provide Celebration of Life services?

VSP serves Greater Boston, the South Shore and Southern New England, along with Hanover, Dartmouth College and the Upper Valley of New Hampshire and Vermont. For gatherings outside those core areas, reach out and we can discuss the location and requirements.
